Rehearsals have begun.
Well, yes, today was a full day of rehearsals for me in preparation for all of my shows in the fall to promote my forthcoming album. Bassist and album producer extraordinaire Ben Wilson and the very talented drummer David Sutton joined me for a good session of practice. We worked through 5 of the album tracks before David had to drive off to a job interview. We are all pretty new at playing with each other, and we struggled through a few sections here and there. In time, we’ll have these songs down.
One things is for certain. I really LOVE playing with a band. It exists within a separate hemisphere from playing solo–a shared space with people who move, swoop, and sway, keeping in sync with these melodic shapes that dance so freely.
My day did not stop with Ben and David’s departure. After running a couple of errands and a lively chat with my friend Kathy over the phone, I did another full three hours alone at my piano and singing into a mic. I practiced a good bit of stuff and fine-tuned the arrangement for a brand new song that I will be debuting very soon at one of my shows.
I am beat and ready for some much-deserved shut-eye.
Though I feel quite tired, I also feel very blessed.
